LIVERPOOL STILL IN EUROPA LEAGUE TIE.
Liverpool suffered a late 1-0 defeat at Spanish side Villarreal in the Europa League semi-final first leg on Thursday night, as Adrian Lopez struck in stoppage-time for the Yellow Submarine.
The tie is very much alive, as the Reds have proven in the past Anfield can be a 12th man on those special European nights and Jurgen Klopp’s side can turn things around next week on Merseyside.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has already warned the Spanish side that Anfield is yet to come. He will be fully aware that his team will need every advantage they can get against a highly-resolute Villarreal team.
It seems doubtful that the second leg on Merseyside will produce anything like in the last round against Dortmund when Klopp’s side recorded a 4-3 victory on the night.
Villarreal and Dortmund could not be more contrasting in styles. The Spanish side set themselves up to be solid and hard to beat, while the German side are more of a force going forward. Villarreal will head to Merseyside looking to keep it tight and let the Reds have the ball and then attempt to hit Klopp’s team on the break.
A one goal lead is not definitive in European football and Liverpool roared on by the Anfield crowd can easy recover this tie. However, they will need to show less naivety than at El Madrigal. Villarreal are no doubt a good experienced team that were always going to give the Reds problems in this tie.
If the side from Merseyside can play to their potential then they can make it through to theEuropa League final, which would be quite impressive considering Klopp has not even been at the club for full season.
